     Objective is to begin reading orally with correct phonetic recognition, pronunciation, and expression.  Begin to demonstrate skills in comprehension, specifically identifying and describing characters, events, and their sequence.

Grammar/Composition        (English for Young Catholics 1)
    Objective is to exhibit knowledge of the alphabet and of basic kinds of words.  Identify the four types of sentences and be able to write examples of each.  Show understanding on a story's beginning, middle, and end.  Begin to identify punctuation, capitalization, and contractions.  Begin to identify antonyms, synonyms, and homonyms.  Appreciate the language arts.
    Text-workbook incorporates Catholic ideas and values through the vocabulary and story lines on the lives of saints and the bible.
Methods of learning include but are not limited to: exercises in the text-workbook, discussions, writing sentences and paragraphs, using a dictionary, developing library skills, and tests.
